Hot Dogs with Onions by Spyros! This recipe made  A&S ( our family Luncheonette)  a hot spot for hot dogs! Spyros, was my dad, a great dad, a man who had no formal education and yet gave me my first entrepreneurial lessons. At A & S we had the best hot dogs because we served them with homemade onions, "Hey Spyros, give me a dog with homemade onions" These were the words that echoed that in the store on a daily basis.  Hot Dogs with Onions by Spyros a simple recipe,  filled with memories that encompass a whole life filled with obstacles, happiness, failure, and success. It might be a no sweat recipe but there'so much attached to this, it's the brick and mortar of what he accomplished.

This recipe is about destiny, it's about taking risks and not being afraid of anything. It's about believing in yourself visualizing your dream and going after it.He came to New York with an elementary level education and his shirt on his back, yet he was able to accomplish so much. U.S.A  a country where hopes, dreams along with a lot of work, can be accomplished. I dedicate this to my dad who passed away on May 3, 2014, and I want to thank him for every lesson he has taught me. 

And, just like my dad, I hope that I, too, will build my empire with Determination, Will & Persistence.

Once you make the onions you can refrigerate and use them at a later time and on anything you like. I love some of these onions on my burger!

Hot Dogs







Ingredients for 8 hot dogs

Sabrett Hot Dogs

  • 5 -6 medium sized onions
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon oregano
  • 1/2 cup olive oil
  • 1 1/2 cup of water
  • 2 tablespoons of tomato paste
  • salt & pepper to taste
  • 1 bottle Tobasco sauce


Slice your onions (but not to thin)

Add in pot with oil saute, add all the remaining ingredients except for the tomato paste.

About a 1 1/2 tall glass of water, adjust accordingly.

When onions are almost ready add tomato paste. Add as much as you like.I usually add 2 -3 tablespoons.

When onions are ready serve them on your hot dogs and dash your onions with Tobasco Sauce
